Boat name avocette iii dimensions beam: 10 ft 9 in length on deck: 48 ft 0 in maximum draft: 3 ft 0 in engines engine 1: engine/fuel type: gas/petrol comments it has been said that we never actually own the classic yachts that will likely outlive us, but that we are simply caretakers of them for a time. Avocette iii is a perfect example of this, is one of the oldest known huckins in existence and is 90eriginal. We are looking for a benefactor to become the next guardian of this 1931 huckins offshore 48. Originally owned by fred voges, avocette iii could be seen cruising in long island sound for five decades with her guests, which included hollywood and broadway royalty of the day. After surviving a fire, she sat in a boatyard in new jersey, her future uncertain. Then new owner, jerry bass, decided to take on an extensive refit of the highest quality, bringing her back to glory in the 1990s. Avocette iii was meticulously maintained by bass until his passing in the early 2000s. Jerry's wife, bette bass, has turned avocette iii over to the museum of yachting and its partner international yacht restoration school (iyrs), and they are keen to find this historical yacht her next caretaker to continue her legacy of beauty and elegance. The next owner of avocette iii will be undertaking a complete restoration project, however, one well worth the effort.
